Foods to Avoid

Damaged appliances are probably the biggest orthodontic nuisance for both patient and doctor. They always mean extra appointments, inconvenience for our staff, more expense and extended treatment time.

We understand that accidents do happen; but almost every loose band, broken bracket or deformed wire is preventable with good eating habits. Please avoid the following foods and also keep in mind that our list is not all inclusive. 

Sticky

  • Gum (even sugar free)
  • Caramels
  • Taffy
  • Skittles
  • Tootsie Rolls
  • Starburst Candies
  • Now and Laters
  • Jolly Ranchers

Hard

  • Fruits & raw vegetables (whole)
  • Beef jerky
  • Hard Taco Shells
  • Nuts
  • Hard Pizza Crust
  • Popcorn kernals
  • Ice cubes
  • Fritos
  • Mints
